Pain and
Relaxation Tips

PAIN

My doctor suggested that I try an ointment
called Equi-Block for the pain in my shoulder
and back. After trying everything else in the
world, I was happy to try it. It is the best
thing that I have found. It is wonderful and
has helped me so very much. I am taking
much less pain medication. (Did I mention
it's for horses, and that you can only buy
it from your local vet or animal supply shop?)
Check with your doctor first!

I discovered Myoflex, a topical analgesic
minus camphor, mint or any other smelly
(burning) junk back in the days when I could
still play tennis without falling on my face.
Or rather, back when I could still jump in
the air without sending my brains into a
dither! Myoflex is the most effective
analgesic I've found to rub into achy legs
and arms. And it doesn't burn AT ALL
(most of us can burn without any
assistance, thank you very much!).
It used to be available at WalMart,
and is somewhat difficult to find.
Myoflex is a CIBA Pharmaceuticals
product with trolamine salicylate as
the active ingredient (common aspirin
is acetylsalicylate).
Please consult with your
physician before using.
Biofreeze is a gel ointment that contains a
product called Silex. It is a very effective
application for muscles pain. Many
chiropractors and physical therapists
sell it. It can also be purchased at
medical supply stores. I have the
mail order information and will provide
it here when I can locate it

PROGRESSIVE RELAXATION
Get as comfortable as you can.
	Put your arms
at your sides, relaxed, feet on
floor. Close your eyes and take
	a deep breath.
Think to yourself, "I am now going
	to relax completely.
	When I finish this exercise,
	I will feel fully refreshed."

     Think about your feet...wiggle
	your toes, flex your ankles.
Then "let	go"...let go of all the
tension, and let your feet rest
	limp and heavy.

Think of the lower part of your
legs, your knees and thighs, up to
	your hips...Imagine them just
	sinking into the floor...feeling
	warm...heavy and relaxed.

Now think of your hands. Wiggle
your fingers and flex your wrists,
	then let go, relax.

Think of your lower arm, elbow,
	and upper arm
-- all the way up to your
	shoulders. Picture all the tension
	just melting away.

Think of your abdomen. Let the
	tension go,and allow your breathing
to flow more smoothly and deeply.

     Think about your stomach and
chest, up to your throat and
	neck. As you continuebreathing
more deeply, just imagine all the
	tension flowing out as you
	relax more and more.

Now think of your throat, neck
	and head, feeling limp and
	relaxed. Relax your facial
	muscles. Drop your jaw, parting
	your lips and teeth slightly.
    	Picture yourself completely relaxed.

If you are aware of any remaining
	tension anywhere your body,
	go to that area mentally
and relax the tension away by
	letting go.

     Continue to remain in this
completely relaxed state for a few
	minutes. You may picture
	pleasant thoughts, or simply
blank your mind, or just focus
	on your breathing....

When you are ready to end this
	relaxation exercise, say to yourself,
"I have been deeply relaxed. I
am now ready to become more
	alert, yet feeling completely
	relaxed and refreshed

     Whenever you are ready, take
a deep breath. Open your eyes
	and stretch...slowly circle
	your wrists and ankles, then
	gently shake
your arms and legs. You are
	now ready to continue with
	your activities.
